Real Madrid will have only 11 representatives at the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, highlighting a season in which several players failed to secure places in their respective national teams.
The players selected for the tournament are Vinicius, Endrick, David Alaba, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Kylian Mbappé, Thibaut Courtois, Antonio Rüdiger, Arda Güler, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Brahim Díaz.
With fewer than half of the squad earning World Cup call-ups, the club's representation at the tournament is lower than many would have expected at the start of the season.
Several players were left out after struggling to maintain consistent performances throughout the campaign. Among them are Eduardo Camavinga, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Álvaro Carreras, Dean Huijsen, Dani Carvajal, Fran García, Raúl Asencio, Dani Ceballos, Gonzalo García, and Franco Mastantuono.
Of those omissions, Huijsen and Gonzalo García are considered the most surprising, particularly given their competition for places in their respective national teams.
The report also points to injuries as a major factor behind Real Madrid's reduced presence at the tournament. Éder Militão, Rodrygo, and Ferland Mendy were unable to make the final squads due to fitness issues.
Had they been available, Rodrygo and Militão in particular would have been strong candidates to represent Brazil at the competition.
