LaLiga 2024-25 has kicked off, and despite a few surprises in the first matchday, the trend in media coverage remains unchanged. Real Madrid once again emerged as the dominant team in terms of television viewership.

The Mallorca vs. Real Madrid match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, attracted a total of 829,000 viewers, accounting for a 9.1% audience share. This means that over 9% of people watching TV in Spain last Sunday night tuned in to see Kylian Mbappé's LaLiga debut.

While the viewership for Real Madrid's match was impressive, it becomes even more noteworthy when compared to the rest of the matchday. The second most-watched game was Valencia's 1-2 loss to Barcelona, which drew 740,000 viewers—almost 90,000 fewer than the Real Madrid-Mallorca game. The Villarreal vs. Atlético match, which ended in a 2-2 draw, garnered 532,000 viewers and a 5.8% audience share.

On the other hand, the least-watched match was Celta's 2-1 victory over Alavés, which only attracted 151,000 viewers and a 2.4% share. Overall, the remaining matches recorded mediocre figures for what is often touted as the "best league in the world."
