Real Madrid's plans to strengthen the midfield could have taken an unexpected turn. After weeks of optimism surrounding a move for Rodri Hernández, the deal has reportedly become far more complicated.
According to an exclusive report from Jijantes, the Spanish international has grown frustrated with the lack of progress and has opened the door to a potential move to Barcelona. If true, the development would force Real Madrid to reassess its strategy for reinforcing José Mourinho's squad.
Since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu, Mourinho has made it clear that signing a top-class defensive midfielder is one of his priorities. Rodri has long been viewed as the ideal candidate, thanks to his ability to bring balance, leadership, and control to the team's midfield.
With uncertainty now surrounding the Manchester City star, attention has shifted to other possible targets. One name that has resurfaced is Martín Zubimendi. Journalist Aaron Domínguez recently posted the midfielder's name alongside a phone emoji on social media, prompting speculation that Real Madrid could be considering the Spanish international as an alternative.
At this stage, there is no confirmation that negotiations have begun with Zubimendi. However, if the pursuit of Rodri ultimately collapses, Real Madrid may be forced to explore other options, and the Spanish midfielder fits many of the qualities Mourinho is looking for.
