Real Madrid have reportedly taken a significant step in their pursuit of Nico Schlotterbeck.
According to Sky Sports, the Spanish club has already made direct contact with the defender's agent as they explore the possibility of bringing him to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Schlotterbeck is said to be one of José Mourinho's preferred options to strengthen Real Madrid's defense ahead of next season. The German international has emerged as a leading candidate as the club continues its search for a new center-back.
Although Schlotterbeck recently signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund, the report claims the agreement includes a clause that could facilitate a future move to Real Madrid.
Discussions between the parties have reportedly already begun, with the club assessing the feasibility of a deal as it continues to reshape its defensive line for the upcoming campaign.
