Real Madrid is continuing to shape its defensive rebuild for next season, and academy graduate Rafa Marín has emerged as one of the options being considered.

According to AS, the club is closely following the defender’s development ahead of the summer transfer window. With David Alaba expected to leave and uncertainty surrounding the future of Raúl Asencio, Real Madrid plans to strengthen the center-back position with two signings.

The club’s priority remains the arrival of an established top-level defender, with names such as Josko Gvardiol and Nico Schlotterbeck reportedly among the profiles admired by the sporting department. However, Real Madrid is also searching for a younger and more affordable option to add depth to the squad.

That is where Rafa Marín fits into the club’s plans. The Andalusian defender, developed in La Fábrica, remains tied to Real Madrid through buy-back clauses included in his departure agreement. According to the report, the club can re-sign him this summer for €25 million or wait until 2027, when the clause would rise to €35 million.

Bringing back Rafa Marín would allow Real Madrid to strengthen its defensive rotation without committing a major portion of the transfer budget, leaving more financial room for other priority reinforcements, including the search for a new right-back following Dani Carvajal’s departure.
