Thibaut Courtois and Real Madrid could extend their relationship once again, with the Belgian goalkeeper potentially remaining at the club until June 2028.
Courtois joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2018 and initially signed a contract extension in August 2021 that would keep him at the club until 2026. He subsequently reached a new agreement through June 2027, although that renewal was not publicly announced at the time and was revealed by the goalkeeper himself during the 2026 World Cup.
His performances and achievements have continued to justify the club’s confidence in him. Courtois has played a crucial role in several of Real Madrid’s biggest successes in recent years, most notably the 2022 Champions League final against Liverpool, when he produced one of the outstanding performances of his career.
Since arriving at the Bernabéu, Courtois has won two Champions League titles along with numerous domestic and international trophies, while also collecting individual recognition, including the Yashin Trophy.
Real Madrid are now considering the possibility of taking the next step with another extension until June 2028. The club generally follows a policy of offering shorter renewals to veteran players, but Courtois has already made clear that he wants to remain in Madrid for several more years and has even expressed his desire to finish his career at the club.
His performances between the posts, combined with his importance inside the dressing room, continue to strengthen the case for Courtois to remain a key part of Real Madrid’s plans.
