Real Madrid are heading toward a season without titles following their Champions League elimination, confirming a difficult campaign. With La Liga effectively out of reach after dropped points against lower-ranked sides and Barcelona holding a significant lead, a comeback appears highly unlikely. The Copa del Rey also ended in disappointment, with an early exit against Albacete in Álvaro Arbeloa’s first match in charge.
The Champions League had become the main objective, and its loss now leaves the club without silverware this season. As a result, Arbeloa’s future is increasingly uncertain. Despite improving the team during challenging moments and showing signs of progress, inconsistency in La Liga and difficulties in managing key players have weakened his position.
According to Mario Cortegana, Florentino Pérez is already considering four candidates for next season. Jürgen Klopp is the preferred option, although he is not currently inclined to return to coaching. Zinedine Zidane is also under consideration, but he is expected to take charge of the French national team after the World Cup.
Other alternatives include Didier Deschamps, who could become available after the World Cup, and Mauricio Pochettino, viewed as one of the strongest candidates given his current situation. Real Madrid are therefore assessing their options as they prepare for a potential managerial change and a broader rebuild ahead of next season.
