Raúl Asencio has been taken to hospital for medical tests after his condition worsened due to gastroenteritis, which had already ruled him out of the trip to Munich. According to COPE, the defender underwent examinations after losing six kilos following several days of vomiting.
His absence from the squad for the second leg against Bayern Munich initially came as a surprise, but the club confirmed it was due to illness. Asencio had been unable to complete the final training session before the trip and did not recover in time to travel. In the days that followed, his condition failed to improve, prompting further medical evaluation.
Real Madrid later issued an official statement: "Following tests carried out on our player Raúl Asencio by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with bacterial enterocolitis. Asencio is at home receiving treatment. His progress will be monitored."
This marks the fourth time this season that the defender has been sidelined by illness. In November, he missed the trip to Montilivi due to gastroenteritis during a period when the team had limited defensive options. In December, a fever ruled him out of a Copa del Rey match at the last minute, and in February, he was affected by the flu ahead of a league fixture, although he managed to recover in time on that occasion.
