Vinicius Jr. has come under significant criticism following Real Madrid’s derby defeat to Atlético Madrid, with the Brazilian’s performance drawing attention beyond the controversy surrounding the refereeing.

In the eight matches he has played for Real Madrid this season, Vinicius has yet to establish himself as the decisive attacking figure the team has relied on in previous campaigns. Against Atlético, José Mourinho substituted him in the 54th minute, with the decision suggesting the coach was looking for a different solution as Real Madrid attempted to recover from the defeat.

According to journalist Alberto Pereiro, there is genuine concern surrounding Vinicius within Real Madrid, with uncertainty over what is currently affecting his performances. The Brazilian has registered one goal and three assists so far this season.

His standout performance came against Real Sociedad, when he scored and provided an assist in Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory. However, his impact has been limited in several of the other matches, leading some supporters to call for Yan Diomande to be given a starting role.

The Ivorian has increasingly made his presence felt through his attitude and attacking intent. Diomande has consistently looked eager to get involved and influence the game, something he has managed to do more regularly than Vinicius in recent appearances.

With the international break providing time to reassess the situation, Mourinho could now consider giving Diomande a starting opportunity when Real Madrid return to action.
