In the last few hours, Real Madrid have struck an agreement with Benfica for the signing of Álvaro Carreras. After intense and demanding negotiations, the left-back is now just one step away from being officially announced—possibly as early as tomorrow.
According to journalist Iván Martín of OkDiario, club president Florentino Pérez has sealed the deal for a fee of €45 million, successfully negotiating down the original €50 million release clause. The payment will be made in two installments of €22.5 million each, easing the immediate financial burden.
The remaining €5 million is tied to future agreements between Real Madrid and Benfica, although further details on those conditions remain undisclosed.
Both clubs are expected to make the transfer official within the next few hours. The announcement is likely to come on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest, finally bringing an end to one of the summer’s most talked-about sagas. Álvaro Carreras is now set to wear the white shirt of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.
