Real Madrid are nearing an agreement to sign Nick Smith Jr., according to basketball insider Chema de Lucas.
The 22-year-old guard, selected 27th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2023 NBA Draft, is now poised to make the move to European basketball after failing to secure a regular NBA opportunity this summer.
Smith Jr. showed his scoring ability during his time in the NBA, averaging nearly 10 points per game during his second season with the Hornets before continuing his development with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Last season, he split his time between the Lakers and their G League affiliate on a two-way contract. He averaged around 20 points per game in the G League while also making 30 appearances for the Lakers, averaging 6.2 points per game.
Smith Jr. has made 147 NBA appearances during his career and could now continue his development with Real Madrid.
