Federico Valverde was the hero for Real Madrid in their dramatic 2–1 victory over Celta de Vigo at Balaídos. The Uruguayan midfielder scored the decisive goal in stoppage time, unleashing celebrations among the players and staff.
Valverde’s long-range strike from outside the box took a decisive deflection off Marcos Alonso’s elbow, wrong-footing goalkeeper Ionut Radu, who had already dived the opposite way and had no chance to stop the ball.
After scoring, Valverde produced one of the most emotional moments of the night by running straight to embrace Real Madrid fitness coach Antonio Pintus.
Later, Pintus himself explained the reason behind the touching gesture in a message on Instagram: “Fede Valverde came to hug me after the goal because of my mother's passing… Fede, you are a noble man and a great player.”
