Carlo Ancelotti has officially been appointed the new head coach of Brazil's national team, a move confirmed by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) even before his departure from Real Madrid has been formally announced. The Italian manager will take charge following Real Madrid’s final La Liga match of the season against Real Sociedad on May 25, with his debut for Brazil scheduled for June 6 against Ecuador in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His first match at home will come just four days later, on June 10, in São Paulo against Paraguay.

CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues described Ancelotti’s appointment as more than just a strategic decision, calling it a powerful statement of Brazil’s intent to reclaim their place at the pinnacle of world football. He praised the Italian as the greatest coach in the history of the game and expressed confidence that, under his leadership, Brazil would begin writing a new chapter of glory. Rodrigues also extended his gratitude to Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez and general director José Ángel Sánchez for their cooperation and understanding in facilitating the agreement.

Ancelotti departs Madrid as the most decorated manager in the club’s illustrious history, having won fifteen major titles across his two spells. These include three UEFA Champions League trophies, two La Liga titles, two Club World Cups, two Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, and one Copa del Rey. His consistent excellence has also earned him the title of Best Coach in the World on three occasions—2013–14, 2021–22, and 2023–24.

The transition from Madrid to Brazil will be swift. Ancelotti is expected to arrive in Brazil immediately after completing his duties in Spain and will meet with national team coordinators Rodrigo Caetano and Juan to finalize the squad for the upcoming qualifiers. The list of called-up players is scheduled to be announced on May 26, just one day after his final match with Madrid.

Ancelotti’s appointment marks the beginning of a bold new era for the Seleção, one that comes with high expectations, both from within the country and across the footballing world.
