Álvaro Carreras is officially back at Real Madrid. After spending three formative years at La Fábrica between 2017 and 2020, the 22-year-old left-back returns to the club, signing a six-year deal that ties him to the Bernabéu until June 30, 2031. His arrival, secured through an agreement with Benfica, directly addresses one of the squad’s weak points last season: depth and reliability at left-back, a role that suffered due to Ferland Mendy’s recurring injuries.
Carreras originally joined Madrid’s youth setup in 2017 before departing to Manchester United in 2020 on a free transfer after reaching the U19 level. Despite having an €18 million purchase option, United chose not to activate it. Meanwhile, Benfica had set his release clause at €50 million.
His presentation will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, at 1:00 p.m., at Real Madrid City.
