The Disciplinary Committee has announced its verdict following the Copa del Rey final, handing Real Madrid a series of suspensions. Antonio Rüdiger has been hit with a six-match ban, Lucas Vázquez will miss two games, while Jude Bellingham has escaped punishment altogether. These decisions come in the wake of the controversial El Clásico defeat, adding another layer of cost for the Madrid side.
In Rüdiger’s case, the suspension will mostly coincide with his injury recovery. The German center-back is already sidelined for around six to eight weeks due to knee surgery, meaning he’ll be unavailable for the remaining five La Liga matches regardless. Since his suspension exceeds four games, it will carry over to other competitions beyond the domestic cup.
As for Lucas Vázquez, his two-match ban applies only to the Copa del Rey, meaning he will be eligible for league matches. If he remains at the club—his contract expires in June—he would serve the suspension during the early rounds of next season’s Copa. However, if he leaves, there’s a possibility he might avoid serving the punishment altogether.
Jude Bellingham, meanwhile, has been cleared of any wrongdoing. Real Madrid presented video evidence proving the English midfielder did not behave as described in the match official’s report, which claimed he approached the referee in an aggressive manner after the final whistle. The footage showed otherwise, leading to the revocation of his red card.
