The NFL has confirmed it will once again stage a regular season game at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid. After the success of the November 2025 matchup, the league has decided to return for the upcoming season and again in 2027, proving that the positive impact of the event went far beyond expectations.
The game between the Washington Commanders and the Miami Dolphins generated an estimated €150 million in economic impact for Madrid and drew more than 78,000 fans to the stadium. Real Madrid also benefited directly, earning around €10 million in venue fees in what turned out to be a highly profitable agreement.
These figures have reinforced the Bernabéu’s reputation as one of the world’s elite sporting venues, leaving a strong impression on the NFL. “It’s a world-class stadium. We’ll definitely be back very soon,” said league commissioner Roger Goodell.
According to AS, the specific dates and teams for the next NFL game in Madrid will be announced in the coming days, as the league finalizes its international schedule ahead of the Super Bowl on February 8. The NFL’s director in Spain, Rafael de los Santos, is expected to travel to Santa Clara shortly to formally confirm the Bernabéu’s continued inclusion in the league’s plans.
Madrid now joins other confirmed international NFL destinations such as Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, London, and Munich. For Real Madrid, the renovated Bernabéu is already delivering clear returns, attracting one of the world’s most lucrative sports leagues and boosting the city’s global profile. The NFL’s ongoing presence in Spain further strengthens Madrid’s appeal as an international sports hub, alongside future events like Formula 1 in 2026.
