Real Madrid have begun to shape their plans for the future of their defense, with the club already exploring the transfer market in search of a new center-back for 2026.
One situation is already clear: David Alaba’s contract expires on June 30 and will not be renewed. Meanwhile, Antonio Rüdiger is in a similar contractual position. Although an extension has not been ruled out, concerns over his physical condition persist. Adding to the uncertainty, reports from Turkey in recent hours suggest that Galatasaray are interested in signing the German defender during the winter transfer window.
On Thursday, journalist Matteo Moretto reported that Real Madrid were initially focusing on the free-agent market for 2026, with high-profile names such as Dayot Upamecano, Marc Guéhi, and Ibrahima Konaté appearing on the shortlist. However, the chances of landing those players have diminished in recent weeks, prompting the club to widen its scope.
Moretto himself provided a fresh update on Friday, revealing that Real Madrid are closely monitoring Jérémy Jacquet, a 20-year-old center-back currently excelling at Stade Rennes. According to the Italian journalist, the club has already dispatched scouts to observe him in recent matches, and the feedback has been highly positive, identifying him as a defender with significant potential.
Internally, Real Madrid believe Jacquet aligns perfectly with the club’s recruitment strategy. He is young, already performing at a high level, and has room to grow. That said, his situation is not straightforward. Jacquet is under contract with Rennes until June 2029, meaning any move would require negotiations with the French club. Given that he has established himself as a regular starter despite his age—having already featured in 15 Ligue 1 matches this season—Rennes are unlikely to make his departure easy.
