Francisco Soto Balirac, the newly appointed president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), addressed the media on Wednesday during his official presentation at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas. Among the topics discussed, Soto touched on the recent tensions between the refereeing body and Real Madrid, aiming to turn the page on past controversies.
“We need to reset the clock and move forward constructively,” said Soto. “This isn’t the time for meaningless disputes. Empathy, trust, and collaboration will help position refereeing where it needs to be.”
He referred to the friction with Real Madrid as isolated incidents that “contribute nothing,” emphasizing that this is the beginning of a new era for the CTA. Soto expressed confidence that “the future will be much better for everyone.”
Soto, a lawyer by profession, was officially named the new president of the CTA under the umbrella of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
