The controversy surrounding the 2024 Ballon d'Or continues to generate stories involving Vinicius Jr., almost two years after Rodri was ultimately named the winner.
Rafa Hermoso, the brother of Jennifer Hermoso, has now shared details on Instagram of an alleged conversation involving the Real Madrid forward and the outcome of that year's award. According to his account, Vinicius had been told in advance that he would win the Ballon d'Or.
Hermoso explained that he had invited Vinicius because they needed to discuss an important matter. He claimed that the Brazilian had been informed he would receive the 2024 Ballon d'Or and that Jennifer Hermoso was due to attend the ceremony to present the award to him.
The plan was reportedly linked to Jennifer Hermoso also receiving an award for her social achievements, with the two expected to present each other with their respective prizes.
“They had told him he was going to win the Ballon d'Or (2024), so my sister was going to receive an award for merit or social achievements or something like that. So my sister would give the Ballon d'Or to Vini and he would give the award to my sister, but you know how it all ended up,” Rafa Hermoso explained in his post.
Vinicius ultimately did not win the award, with Rodri announced as the winner at the gala. Hermoso's account offers a new perspective on what may have happened in the build-up to the ceremony, but it remains an unverified claim from Jennifer Hermoso's brother.
There has been no official confirmation from France Football regarding any prior communication with Vinicius or the voting process that led to Rodri winning the award.
