According to Bild, UEFA is set to introduce another change to the Champions League format beginning with the 2025-26 season. Under the updated rules, the top eight teams from the league stage will receive a significant advantage in the knockout rounds.
These eight clubs will now be guaranteed to play the second leg of their knockout ties at home, a privilege previously reserved only for the Round of 16. From the quarterfinals onwards, matchups had traditionally been determined via a blind draw, with no seeding or home-leg preferences.
The new rule also applies when two top-eight teams face each other. In that case, the club that finished higher in the league phase will earn the right to host the decisive second leg.
