José Mourinho wants Real Madrid to maintain their focus and intensity for the full 90 minutes of every match, with the Portuguese manager making game management one of his priorities ahead of the derby against Atlético Madrid and for the rest of the season.
According to Diario AS, Mourinho will place particular emphasis on this during training. The coach was not satisfied with Real Madrid’s performance in the second half against Elche, although he also praised his players for the way they responded after a difficult spell.
Mourinho wants his players to remain concentrated throughout the entire match, knowing that a brief lapse can undo much of the work done beforehand. His objective is to eliminate these periods of weakness before Real Madrid enter the most demanding fixtures of the season.
Sunday’s derby against Atlético Madrid will provide an important test of whether the team can put that approach into practice.
The Portuguese manager also wants Real Madrid to improve their ability to manage the different phases of matches and ensure that a poor spell does not ultimately decide the result. The second half against Elche left Mourinho with some negative feelings, but the coach also took encouragement from his players’ ability to react and secure the victory.
