Real Madrid have identified Enzo Fernández as a priority target to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season.

According to the report, José Mourinho has requested the addition of another proven midfielder, with the Chelsea star emerging as his preferred option among the names presented to the club.

Fernández fueled speculation about a possible move to Spain earlier this year when he spoke openly about his admiration for Madrid.

"I'd like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid, it reminds me of Buenos Aires. I would live in Madrid. A player lives wherever he wants. I can get by in English, but I'd be better with Spanish."

The Argentine midfielder later attended the Mutua Madrid Open, further increasing speculation surrounding his future.

Real Madrid are aware that a deal would be considerably more complicated than other recent operations due to the financial demands involved. However, the club is reportedly exploring the possibility of completing another major signing as it continues reshaping the squad under Mourinho.

Fernández's agent, former footballer Javier Pastore, is said to be aware of both Real Madrid's interest and the player's openness to the idea of a future move.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are reportedly willing to listen to offers, although they are not expected to lower their demands for one of their most valuable players. The Premier League club has consistently valued Fernández at around €120 million, matching the fee paid to Benfica in January 2023 following his World Cup-winning campaign with Argentina.

With the World Cup now underway, Fernández's future could become one of the major transfer stories of the summer.
