José Mourinho’s new era at Real Madrid is already beginning to show a clear identity. The Portuguese manager is restoring a winning mentality in the dressing room, built around hard work, competition and meritocracy.
Although the team is still some way from reaching its best level, Mourinho has already created positive feelings that go beyond the results. Among his main achievements so far are building a competitive squad, reducing the number of injuries and convincing his players to give everything on the pitch.
Mourinho’s message has also resonated with the senior figures in the dressing room. For the first time since Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé have been together at Real Madrid, the three attacking stars appear to be pulling in the same direction.
The Portuguese coach has found a way to integrate them through his 4-2-3-1 formation, with all three feeling important to the team. Their respect for Mourinho is increasingly evident, while their performances have provided further proof of the impact of his approach.
Mbappé has already registered seven goals and one assist, while Bellingham has contributed three goals and two assists. Vinicius, meanwhile, has one goal and three assists.
The numbers for the trio are impressive overall, but their individual performances have not been at the same level. Operating as an attacking midfielder, Bellingham is able to use his full range of abilities across the pitch, while Mbappé has been able to showcase his pace and finishing from the centre of the attack.
Vinicius, however, has been the least convincing of the three so far. The Brazilian is still contributing to the statistics, but his performances have raised more questions than those of his teammates. Mourinho has given him complete freedom on the left wing, yet Vinicius has still not found his best form.
