Real Madrid have taken a clear step forward under José Mourinho. After two years of serious struggles, the Portuguese manager is rebuilding a project that appeared to have reached a dead end. His message has had a major impact on a dressing room that once seemed divided but is now united behind a common goal. The improvement is also clear on the pitch, with the team pressing higher, showing greater organisation, and winning most of their matches with relative comfort.

Even when things go wrong, however, Real Madrid have shown an ability to respond, something that is also down to "The Special One". Mourinho has restored the competitive spirit to a dressing room that had been hurt in its pride and appeared to have lost the very essence of what defines the club. Los Blancos are once again demonstrating that they never give up and continue fighting until the final whistle, a characteristic that seemed to have disappeared in recent seasons.

Since Mourinho returned to the Real Madrid bench, the team have secured five victories thanks to dramatic late goals, all of them away from home. The first came in the opening match of the season against Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium. What proved to be a more difficult encounter than expected was settled by Carlos Espí in the closing moments. Mourinho's side continued the trend weeks later against Elche, claiming three crucial points with another late intervention.

Real Madrid then produced a remarkable comeback in Rome, overturning a two-goal deficit in just two minutes. The Clásico followed, with the decisive goal arriving less than five minutes from the final whistle. The run continued yesterday with another comeback, this time at AEK Athens' stadium.
