José Mourinho addressed speculation surrounding his future after the end of the league season and Benfica’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

“At the moment, the only thing I have on record is an offer from Benfica … which I haven’t seen, but Jorge Mendes tells me it’s very good,” Mourinho said during his press conference.

The Portuguese coach also referred to the growing links with Real Madrid and acknowledged indirect contact between the club and his entourage.

“ It’s also true that I haven’t spoken with Florentino Pérez or anyone else in the club’s structure . All of this is true. But I’m not stupid… and there have been contacts between the club and Jorge. And I think those will turn into contacts with me during the next week ,” he stated.

Mourinho asked for patience before making any final decision about his future.

“Now I have a ‘ decision period ,’ a period of calm; tomorrow I’m going to wake up as Benfica’s coach, on Monday I’ll go to the training center, and then we’ll see what happens.”

The coach later reiterated that his continuity at Benfica remains a strong possibility, while again leaving the door open regarding Real Madrid.

“ Right now, it’s almost certain I’ll stay at Benfica, because I have a contract and an offer that I haven’t seen yet, but my agent told me it was excellent . As for Real Madrid, I don’t have anything at the moment, but obviously, I repeat: none of us are stupid.”

Finally, Mourinho reflected on the possibility of receiving an offer from Real Madrid and the factors that would influence his decision.

“It depends on the offer, on what they expect from me. We’re not talking about more or less money, but about what they expect from me, whether I’m in a position to meet their demands, the work profile they envision . I want to have time to analyze, think, and decide for myself. We’ll see what happens.”
