Ferland Mendy has been diagnosed with a rectus femoris tendon injury in his right leg, according to a medical report released by Real Madrid after tests carried out by the club’s medical staff. The French defender was forced off in the 10th minute during the match at the RCDE Stadium, showing immediate signs of discomfort.
“Following tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rectus femoris tendon injury in his right leg. His recovery will be monitored,” read the official statement.
Mendy is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Club sources indicate that the player and specialists will evaluate the possibility of surgery in the coming days, with that option currently seen as the most likely. While recovery time will depend on the final decision, it could extend to around five months if surgery is required.
This marks Mendy’s fifth injury of the season, adding to an ongoing series of physical setbacks within the squad, which has recorded 120 injuries over the past two seasons.
The left-back has made only nine appearances this campaign, totaling 448 minutes on the pitch. After suffering an injury in last season’s Copa del Rey final, he was unavailable for several months and did not return until November 26 in a Champions League match in Athens. Despite his limited availability, Mendy has delivered strong performances when fit, including a solid display against Bayern Munich, where he effectively contained Michael Olise.
