Ferland Mendy is finally showing signs of progress in his recovery after an injury-plagued 2025-26 season.

The French left-back endured another frustrating campaign, making just nine appearances due to recurring fitness problems. Despite his limited playing time, he started in Real Madrid's two biggest European matches of the season against Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Mendy is still recovering from the hamstring tendon injury that required surgery on May 11, preventing him from taking part in preseason training alongside the rest of José Mourinho's squad.

However, there has now been a positive development. During Real Madrid's twelfth preseason training session, Mendy returned to the pitch at Valdebebas to begin running after initially working in the gym. It marked his first time back on the grass since undergoing surgery 71 days ago.

Although his recovery is progressing as planned, the club's original medical assessment projected a five-month rehabilitation period. If that timeline is maintained, Mendy is not expected to return to competitive action before November.
