According to Diario AS, Mendy's recovery has entered its final stages. While there is still no specific date for his return to competition, reaching this stage of the process has given Real Madrid reason to be optimistic about his availability in the near future.
Mendy's return will also create another selection decision for Mourinho. The Portuguese manager currently has Marc Cucurella and Álvaro Carreras available at left-back, meaning the Frenchman's return will increase competition for a position considered crucial to his system. Mendy offers different qualities through his physical strength, speed and defensive experience.
Real Madrid will nevertheless remain cautious until Mendy has completed his recovery. The priority is to avoid any risk of a relapse and ensure the Frenchman returns to the squad only when he is fully ready to compete.
