Kylian Mbappé continues to carve out legendary moments in a Real Madrid shirt. The French striker has scored the team’s first five goals in this season’s Champions League—a feat never before achieved in the club’s history in its favorite competition. He accomplished it by netting his fourth hat-trick as a Madrid player and reaching 13 goals in just nine official matches this season, mirroring the start once made by his idol.
Inevitably, the comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo have resurfaced, and Mbappé’s early numbers stand alongside those of the Portuguese star. In Ronaldo’s most prolific season (2014-15, with 61 goals), he began with the same scoring rhythm that Mbappé has now matched. In fact, some of Kylian’s statistics are even superior. According to BeSoccer Pro and Opta, he finds the net every 60 minutes—a better average than Ronaldo’s best year (76 minutes)—and converts 23.6% of his shots, compared to the Portuguese’s 18.1%. His accuracy is equally remarkable: 57% of his attempts hit the target, well above Cristiano’s 42%.
The Parisian forward’s influence on Real Madrid’s attack is undeniable. He has scored 13 of the team’s 23 goals so far (56.5%), highlighting a clear “Mbappé-dependence” that the squad welcomes rather than worries about. “Everything good that comes to him is good for the team,” Fran García pointed out. And indeed, what a fortunate dependence for a Real Madrid side now celebrating the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo’s natural successor.
