Kylian Mbappé is not giving up hope of featuring in the upcoming clash against Manchester City, even though his presence currently appears highly unlikely. The Real Madrid forward still believes he could recover in time for the crucial UEFA Champions League encounter.

According to reports from the Spanish newspaper AS, both the player and the club maintain the same cautious optimism: making it in time will be extremely difficult, but it is not completely impossible.

In an effort to accelerate his recovery, Mbappé has sought help from leading specialists. Following advice from the club’s medical department led by Niko Mihic, the striker consulted renowned French surgeon Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, widely known in sports circles as the “Miracle Doctor.”

Sonnery-Cottet is one of the world’s leading experts in treating complex knee injuries and has previously worked with stars such as Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Karim Benzema.

The diagnosis obtained from the consultation reportedly aligns with the club’s initial medical evaluation: maximum caution and patience are required, and surgery is not being considered at this stage.

Despite this, Mbappé’s determination to return quickly comes with clear risks. Attempting to shorten the recovery timeline could increase the chances of a relapse, especially in a year that also includes the World Cup.

Now, the coaching staff led by Álvaro Arbeloa must carefully decide whether taking such a risk for Wednesday’s match is worthwhile or if protecting their star forward and targeting the second leg would be the wiser approach.
