Marcelo has experienced everything in football. However, he was yet to experience one of the most difficult nights of his 18-year career. The former Real Madrid player was sent off after an accidental attack on Luciano Sánchez, from Argentinos Juniors. The Brazilian player, after verifying the severity of the action, could not contain his tears and left the field completely devastated.

It was the 57th minute of the first leg of the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores against Argentinos Juniors. In an attacking action, the Brazilian full-back stretched out his left leg in support after launching a dribble with his right foot. At that moment, his foot hit the tibia of the Argentine defender Luciano Sánchez, who immediately fell to the ground screaming in pain.

Marcelo, realizing the gravity of the situation, immediately called for medical assistance to enter and help Sánchez, whose knee had suddenly and entirely by accident bent. The Brazilian defender was shown a red card by the referee at the conclusion of the play, and as he left the field, he asked for forgiveness from the player and the fans before breaking down in tears at the severity of the matter.

The Brazilian full-back took to social media after the match to express his feelings about what happened and, once again, to seek for apology for an unfortunate move. In his 18-year career, the full-back has only been directly sent off three times and twice for double yellow cards.

"Today I have had to live through a very difficult moment on the field. I have inadvertently injured a colleague by profession," wrote the former Real Madrid star, who immediately went to the Argentine team's locker room to ask about the state of Sánchez, with the one who also exchanged phone calls, according to TyC Sports, to inquire about his health. "I want to wish you the best possible recovery, Luciano Sánchez. All the strength in the world!"
