Toni Kroos reflected on Real Madrid’s difficult season and the recent El Clásico defeat during an episode of his Luppen podcast alongside his brother Félix.
The former Madrid midfielder admitted that the team’s internal problems had a clear impact on their performance against Barcelona.
“Two seasons without winning is unacceptable at Real Madrid, period,” Kroos said. “What happened on the pitch was a consequence of the poor internal dynamics within the team.”
Kroos also suggested that the atmosphere surrounding the squad before the match made the result feel almost inevitable.
“They may have been motivated to win El Clásico, but it wasn’t enough. The defeat felt almost decided before kickoff. I think they would have accepted that result before the game even started,” he explained.
Despite criticizing the overall situation, Kroos acknowledged that Real Madrid improved after halftime, although they were unable to change the outcome.
The German also spoke positively about Arda Güler, describing him as one of the club’s most important players for the future.
“Arda Güler is a player for the future. He’s played a lot this season and will be very important for Madrid,” Kroos stated.
According to the former midfielder, Güler’s ideal role is closer to the opposition goal, where his creativity and final pass can have the greatest impact.
