The Champions League playoff draw held on January 30 once again paired Real Madrid with Benfica, setting up another familiar European showdown.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos shared his thoughts on the repeat matchup, playing down the idea of any major surprises. “I don’t expect any surprises from Real Madrid against Benfica,” he said.
However, Kroos pointed out what could be the real issue for Los Blancos. “What may bother Real Madrid more is having to play two extra matches in an already overloaded calendar,” he explained.
The German also reflected on how the situation unfolded for Madrid. “They started the round in third place, believing they would get past Benfica without too much trouble and secure a place in the top eight,” Kroos added.
