The sports world has been closely following the dismissal of Xabi Alonso as Real Madrid head coach after the defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. The decision sent shockwaves through the Madrid fanbase, and one prominent supporter has made his stance very clear: Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“The Eagle”, a UFC legend and outspoken Real Madrid fan, used his Instagram stories to fiercely criticize both the squad and the club’s decision-makers, while publicly backing the coach from Tolosa.
“I believe Xabi Alonso is one of the three best coaches in the world right now. If this team didn’t work under him, then the players should be changed, not the coach. I’m convinced no manager can handle this lineup at Real Madrid as it stands. The club needs to get rid of temperamental players,” Khabib stated.
The former UFC champion directly addressed one of the key factors behind Alonso’s departure: the dissatisfaction among certain players with his training methods and demanding approach. For Khabib, that argument is unacceptable.
“If you come to the gym or the pitch, whether you are a wrestler or a footballer, the head coach is in charge. But if you create an environment where not everyone is required to meet the same standards, then something is clearly wrong,” he added in his first message.
Khabib’s criticism did not stop there. In a later Instagram story, he shared a farewell message originally posted by Bayer Leverkusen for Xabi Alonso, accompanied by a blunt and emotional caption.
“There is nothing more important than loyalty. A year ago they were begging him to join, and now they fire him because of spoiled brats. Xabi, you are the best,” Nurmagomedov wrote.
