Real Madrid's busy summer has included more than just new arrivals. Alongside the signings of José Mourinho, Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, and Denzel Dumfries, the club has also issued two official statements denying transfer speculation, first regarding Michael Olise and now Enzo Fernández.
While both statements reject the rumors, there is an important distinction in the wording.
Regarding Enzo Fernández, Real Madrid's position is unequivocal. The club stated:
"In light of the information and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid CF in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any effort, either direct or indirect, aimed at signing the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of undertaking such an operation."
The opening paragraph alone makes the club's stance clear, denying not only any current negotiations but also any intention of pursuing the Chelsea midfielder. Despite reports linking José Mourinho with admiration for the Argentine, Real Madrid has publicly ruled out the possibility of a transfer.
The wording of the club's June 20 statement on Michael Olise, however, was noticeably different. Rather than completely dismissing the possibility, Real Madrid emphasized its relationship with Bayern Munich and the proper procedure for any potential transfer.
The statement read: "Both clubs have always maintained a relationship based on trust and mutual respect, which is reflected, among other things, in the shared conviction that any potential interest in a player belonging to the other club must first be addressed between the clubs themselves, in accordance with the principles of institutional loyalty that have historically governed the relationship between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid."
Unlike the Enzo Fernández statement, which explicitly rejected any intention to sign the player, the Olise statement focused on the importance of institutional communication between the two clubs. This difference has led some observers to interpret the wording as leaving the door open to a possible future approach for the Bayern Munich winger.
