Real Madrid remain focused on strengthening their midfield ahead of next season, with the position identified as one of the squad's main priorities following a disappointing campaign.

Despite already securing the signing of Bernardo Silva, both the club's hierarchy and José Mourinho believe another addition is needed to complete the midfield and finalize the team's summer business.

At present, Enzo Fernández and Ayyoub Bouaddi are considered among the leading candidates. Bouaddi, in particular, has significantly increased his stock after a series of impressive performances at the World Cup, building on the promise he had already shown with Lille in Ligue 1.

However, another name continues to attract attention at the Santiago Bernabéu. According to Mario Cortegana, Real Madrid are still closely monitoring AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit. Reports from the Netherlands suggest the club's interest remains intact despite the youngster's absence from the Dutch national team squad.

The operation could be facilitated by Jorge Mendes, who is reportedly working on the player's future and could play an important role in any potential transfer this summer.

AZ Alkmaar, meanwhile, are expected to drive a hard bargain. The Dutch club reportedly values Smit at no less than €60 million, a figure that would require significant consideration from Real Madrid as they continue evaluating their midfield options.
