Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Kees Smit, the 19-year-old Dutch midfielder from AZ Alkmaar who has already attracted significant attention across Europe. According to multiple reports, Los Blancos have been working for months to position themselves for a potential future move.

Smit himself has not hidden his excitement at being linked with the Spanish giants. After shining at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, he admitted: "I played quite well. I did well, I scored a lot of goals. That definitely helped me get attention. I saw my name popping up a lot on social media back then. I was supposed to be in Real Madrid's sights. That made me proud."

His performances at the tournament were outstanding, netting four goals against Germany, Norway, England, and Romania. He also collected both the MVP and the Golden Boot awards.

AZ extended his contract until 2028 and managed to fend off offers this summer, but within the club there’s an awareness that it will be difficult to keep hold of him beyond 2026.

Smit’s current plan is to continue developing in the Eredivisie for another season, but everything suggests a big move is coming in 2026—with Real Madrid and several Premier League clubs among the strongest contenders.
