Real Madrid is expected to officially open its presidential electoral process in the coming days following the announcement made by Florentino Pérez during his latest press conference.

For the first time in years, Pérez could face competition in the elections. Enrique Riquelme, a businessman from Alicante and a club member for more than two decades, is reportedly preparing to launch his candidacy. Riquelme was close to entering the race in 2021, but sources now believe he is ready to officially take the step this time.

According to reports from El Confidencial, Riquelme’s project already has the backing of several figures linked to the club, including Iker Casillas. The former goalkeeper recently showed disagreement on social media regarding the possible return of José Mourinho and could reportedly become involved in Riquelme’s presidential campaign.

The report also states that Riquelme rented premises near the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium months ago as part of preparations for a possible campaign. The five-year lease was reportedly intended to strengthen connections with Real Madrid supporters ahead of the elections.

Florentino Pérez appeared to indirectly reference Riquelme during his press conference, acknowledging the possibility of another candidate and encouraging him to officially present his candidacy.

Casillas’ position has also attracted attention. Some reports suggest his relationship with Florentino Pérez was affected by the circumstances surrounding his departure from the club. Following the president’s press conference, Casillas posted an emoji on social media showing a man with his hand on his face, interpreted by many as a sign of disappointment.

According to the same reports, Casillas would welcome a return to Real Madrid under a different presidency.
