The Spanish Football Federation and the Technical Committee of Technical Referees have made the first major decision following the crisis that occurred last Sunday in Mestalla surrounding the figure of Vinicius. Nacho Iglesias Villanueva is no longer a VAR referee. Together with him, five other VAR referees are fired for the upcoming season.

The dismissal of Iglesias Villanueva is due to the image cut that was sent to De Burgos Bengoetxea in the play related to the expulsion of Vinicius. They cannot find the reason why the sequence sent only referred to the Brazilian's blow to Hugo Duro's face and not to the rest of the play.

It is the first time that a VAR referee has been found to have distorted some photos of a match, which is why he has been dismissed of his duties. Except from Iglesias Villanueva, the rest of the VAR referees will not be retained because the CTA believes that the tool's use must alter and evolve.

Real Madrid demanded decisions about the use of the VAR in their second statement, and the Federation did not want to waste time once they had studied what happened in the VAR room and the photos sent to De Burgos Bengoechea.
