Mario Hezonja has established himself as a key figure for Real Madrid Baloncesto under Sergio Scariolo, finally showing the consistency that had been missing in previous seasons.
The Croatian forward renewed his contract in the summer of 2024, committing to the club until 2029. However, his future has come back into focus after his agent, Misko Raznatovic, opened the door to a possible move to the NBA at the end of the season.
Hezonja already has experience in the NBA, having been selected fifth overall in the 2015 draft by the Orlando Magic and later playing for several teams before returning to Europe in 2021. After spells with Panathinaikos and UNICS Kazan, he joined Real Madrid, where he has grown into a leader since 2022.
Despite previous criticism over inconsistency, Hezonja has reached a high level this season under Scariolo. Still, his agent has made it clear that a return to the NBA remains a real possibility. “I don’t rule out Mario’s return to the NBA at all. The opportunities are real and higher than some fans might think,” Raznatovic stated.
Although his contract runs until 2029, the player reportedly has an NBA opt-out clause, meaning Real Madrid could face a key decision this summer depending on how the situation develops.
