Real Madrid TV has reignited its public criticism of referees, focusing on Jesús Gil Manzano, who is set to officiate the upcoming La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Celta de Vigo on matchday 34 at the Santiago Bernabéu. The club’s official channel didn’t hold back, labeling him “the referee at the center of the biggest refereeing scandal in recent years,” referring to past decisions that they believe unjustly affected the team.

The video highlighted the infamous incident from March of last season, when Gil Manzano prematurely ended the match against Valencia just as Jude Bellingham headed in what would have been a last-gasp winner. The whistle blew seconds before the ball crossed the line, and the goal was disallowed. Bellingham was subsequently sent off for aggressively protesting the call, reportedly shouting, "It's a fucking goal" — an outburst that earned him a two-match suspension.

Although the referee from Extremadura was benched for several weeks after that controversial moment, he has since returned to officiate Real Madrid in three matches this season, including two in La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup final. In total, he has refereed 52 Real Madrid matches, with a record of 40 wins, six draws, and six defeats for Los Blancos. Sunday’s match will mark his return to the Bernabéu nearly two years after his last appearance there.

Real Madrid TV also released a separate video focusing on Hernández Maeso, who will oversee VAR for the same match. The footage accuses him of a series of past decisions unfavorable to Real Madrid — including denied penalties, wrongly disallowed goals, and questionable red card calls.
