A €45 million transfer fee has accelerated Franco Mastantuono’s move, forcing him to leave River Plate earlier than the Argentine club had hoped. River’s management wanted the midfielder to stay until January to finish the Copa Libertadores, but Real Madrid made it clear that such an arrangement was not an option. After negotiations, both sides reached a mutually beneficial deal. Mastantuono’s last appearance came in the Club World Cup with Marcelo Gallardo’s side, and under the terms of the agreement, his next match will be in a Real Madrid shirt under Xabi Alonso.
The young talent will be officially unveiled on Thursday, August 14, at Valdebebas. Journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon confirmed that Mastantuono will train with Xabi Alonso’s squad for the first time that same day—coinciding with his 18th birthday. A milestone moment both professionally and personally.
Although Mastantuono holds an Italian passport, Real Madrid have been cautious in handling his arrival. The club has ensured that his first official day at Valdebebas will be Thursday, avoiding any unnecessary risk with one of South America’s brightest football prospects.
