The transfer of Franco Mastantuono to Real Madrid is now done (although not yet official). The young Argentine talent, described by national team coach Lionel Scaloni as "a huge deal," has signed with Los Blancos until 2031, marking one of the club’s most exciting long-term investments. According to AS, the River Plate starlet will arrive in Madrid on August 15, shortly after he turns 18.
Although River Plate had hoped to keep their jewel at least until January, the pull of Real Madrid proved too strong. Both the club and the player initially wanted to delay the move, but in the end, the opportunity to join the most prestigious club in world football was irresistible.
From Madrid’s side, Xabi Alonso sees Mastantuono as a key piece for the present—not just the future. As revealed by Cadena SER's Manu Carreño, the new coach plans to give the left-footed playmaker a starting role right away, primarily on the right side of the midfield, where he’ll compete with the likes of Rodrygo, Arda Güler, and Brahim Díaz.
The deal includes the full $45 million release clause (around €40 million), along with an additional €5 million in taxes, which Real Madrid agreed to cover as a gesture of goodwill toward River Plate. The smooth negotiations reflect the strong relationship between the two historic clubs.
Before wearing white, Mastantuono still has one final mission with El Millonario. He will travel with River Plate to the United States for their Club World Cup campaign, hoping to say goodbye with silverware and make a lasting impact. His dream of becoming a club legend is still alive—and this final tournament gives him a chance to honor the shirt one last time.
