Shocking rumours shook Madrid on Friday, suggesting Florentino Pérez planned to step down as Real Madrid president in 2026, two years early, to ensure a smooth succession and safeguard the club’s future.
The 78-year-old leader, architect of the Galácticos era and six Champions League titles, was reportedly prepared to leave his post regardless of member backing, causing widespread concern.
The rumours were quickly dismissed. New reports confirm that Pérez will complete his mandate through 2028 and intends to address the speculation at the General Assembly on November 23.
He is also fast-tracking reforms to the socios membership model, moving a key debate from 2026 to late 2025.
