Florentino Pérez has responded to the growing attention surrounding Enrique Riquelme's promise to sign Erling Haaland by unveiling major plans of his own ahead of the Real Madrid presidential election.
Speaking on the programme Horizonte, Pérez dismissed the reports linking Haaland to Riquelme's project and questioned the credibility of the proposed operation.
"Everyone has denied the Haaland thing, it must be a bluff... I don't want people who destabilize the club," Florentino said.
The current president also revealed that his campaign has secured the transfer of Denzel Dumfries and announced plans to pursue a major signing should he remain in office.
"I have some news to share. On Tuesday, I'm going to make a significant offer to a Champions League club for a top player. It would be the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid. It would be around 150 million euros. A hint? I can't give you any, I'm just hinting at what we're going to do," he said.
Pérez ruled out several names during the interview while continuing to build anticipation around the identity of the player.
"Olise is a great player, but he's not Olise. He's not Doku either… We're going to make a significant offer, at least 150 million. Ideally, he'd be a midfielder or forward. And he's not Haaland. And he's not from the Premier League. And the first thing we'll do is talk to the club. It's a signing meant to generate excitement, because that's what it's all about, generating excitement," Florentino continued in response to questions from Iker Jiménez.
The announcement adds another chapter to an increasingly intense election campaign, with both candidates presenting ambitious sporting projects ahead of the vote.
