After winning the Copa Libertadores by defeating Athletico Paranaense 1-0 in the final, Flamengo of Brazil will be Real Madrid's main rival in the upcoming Club World Cup.
Gabriel Barbosa, Gabigol, scored the goal that gave Flamengo the third Copa Libertadores in their history and qualified the team from Rio de Janeiro for the semifinals of the Club World Cup. The venue and dates of the tournament are still unclear.
In addition to Los Blancos, as UEFA’s representative after winning the Champions League and which also directly puts them into the semi-finals of the Club World Cup, and Flamengo, also guaranteed their presence is Seattle Sounders from the United States, as winner of the CONCACAF Champions League; Wydad Casablanca from Morocco, as champion of the African Champions League; and Auckland City from New Zealand, winner of the Oceania Champions League.
There are still two teams to be revealed: the one that will represent the hosting nation (tbc) and the Asian Champions League champion, who will be known on February 26, 2023, the day the second leg of the final is played. One of the finalists is the Japanese team Urawa, but it is unknown who will play against them.
