Luís Figo attended a Duracell and LaLiga event this Friday in Barcelona, where he spoke about the current situation at Real Madrid, the reported clash between Valverde and Tchouaméni, and the possibility of José Mourinho returning to the club.

Regarding the reported altercation inside the dressing room, Figo said: “Real Madrid has issued a statement; I'm not part of the club. I think that, theoretically, what happened can't be considered normal because it shouldn't happen in a team environment. It won't be the last time, nor the first, that something like this has happened. I think these situations can occur in a locker room because in that situation, frustration and the heat of the moment often lead you to have an abnormal attitude, but it won't be the last time in a football locker room. Logically, it shouldn't happen. I've experienced it, that's why I say it won't be the last time, nor the first, and managing thirty people isn't easy, and you do things you shouldn't.”

Figo also addressed Mourinho’s possible return to the Santiago Bernabéu. “His arrival? I don't know, you'd have to ask Florentino. I didn't know Mourinho was a hardliner. I've had him as a translator, as an assistant coach, as my head coach, as a friend… and I've never felt he was a hardliner. Seriously, I don't think Real Madrid needs a hardliner coach knowing the club, knowing the environment, the atmosphere… I'm not a hardliner. You have to know how to manage twenty-five people, twenty-five egos, and nowadays, in addition to a coach who has to understand football, you have to know how to manage those egos to be able to convince those players to go in the same direction. If you call that a hardliner, then it's a hardliner.”

He continued: “I think that in relationships, and especially at Real Madrid, you have to be a person with common sense who feels for the club and understands the environment. If you look at the last coaches who have been successful, like Zidane, Del Bosque, Ancelotti… they aren't the hardliner type. Of course, you have to have your own discipline. That's my opinion as someone who has been around the club; a hardliner doesn't work.”
