Real Madrid’s injury concerns continue to mount. Just hours after confirming that Antonio Rüdiger had undergone surgery for a partial tear in the external meniscus of his left leg — an operation that will sideline him for six to eight weeks — the club has now suffered another setback.

Ferland Mendy has also joined the injury list. “Following tests carried out on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a tear of the proximal rectus femoris tendon in his right quadriceps. Pending development,” read the club’s official statement.

The French left-back suffered the injury during the Copa del Rey final, playing only eight minutes before limping off. It was his first match back after a 45-day absence due to a previous muscle issue, and now the new injury is significantly more serious. Mendy is expected to miss the remainder of the season, including the Club World Cup.
