Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has confirmed that Enzo Fernández will be unavailable for the upcoming matches against Port Vale in the FA Cup and Manchester City next week, following a disciplinary decision taken by the club.
The sanction comes shortly after the midfielder publicly expressed his admiration for Real Madrid and hinted at a possible move. Speaking about the situation, Rosenior explained: “I spoke with Enzo an hour ago. As a football club, and with my involvement in the decision, he will not be available for tomorrow’s game or for the Manchester City game next Sunday. A line has been crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build.”
The coach made it clear that the decision was collective. “First and foremost, I have the utmost respect for Enzo, both as a person and as a player. He’s frustrated because he wants us to succeed. As for the decision, it wasn’t just about me, or the sporting directors, or the board, or the players; we all agreed on the decision made. The door isn’t closed for Enzo. It’s a sanction. We have to protect the club’s culture, and in that sense, a line was crossed.”
During the international break, Enzo openly spoke about his future, stating his desire to live in Spain and specifically in Madrid, reinforcing speculation about his long-term intentions. He had also raised doubts after the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, saying: “I don’t know. There are eight games left and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup, and then we’ll see.”
As a result, Chelsea have opted to suspend the 25-year-old for two matches, considering his recent comments a breach of the club’s internal code.
