Enrique Riquelme, who challenged Florentino Pérez in last June's Real Madrid presidential elections, has reacted to the club's proposal to bring Rafa Nadal onto its Board of Directors with a public message combining congratulations with the demands promoted by his members' platform.
“Dear Rafa, it’s a joy to have someone like you at Real Madrid. Upright, loyal, and a great Madridista,” Riquelme wrote, expressing his appreciation for the tennis legend. He also referred to their shared views on the club: “With you, Madrid wins and, as we have commented on several occasions, always, Madrid First.”
The businessman then outlined the changes he hopes Nadal can help bring about within the institution.
“I’m sure you can help us prevent the sale of the club, restore dignity to being a Real Madrid member, and avoid the irregularities experienced by thousands of members, achieving greater transparency and democracy,” he stated.
Riquelme also invited Nadal to hear directly about the concerns raised by his platform's members: “I’m eager to invite you to learn about the concerns and problems of the members.”
He concluded with a direct appeal to the former tennis player, suggesting that his position on the Board could allow him to make a difference for club members.
“Now you can do a lot for the members from within. We trust you. Big hug, my friend. Hala Madrid!”
